Study goals
The general objective of this article is to “find out how the development of managerial skills required of course coordinators at Centro Universitário Avivar, in Minas Gerais, takes place”.
Relevance / originality
The relevance of the study is based on the scarcity of studies with the proposed approach and the possible contribution to the theoretical debate, based on the empirical basis.
Methodology / approach
This is a descriptive case study. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire, interviews and consultation of documents. Data treatment involved Content Analysis and descriptive statistics procedures with median and mode calculations.

Theoretical / methodological contributions
The methodological contribution points to the relevance of data triangulation from different collection techniques. The theoretical contribution indicates that the model by Quinn et al. (2003) proves to be adequate for the analysis of the activity of Course Coordinators.
Social / management contributions
The theoretical model adopted shows that, within the scope of an HEI, various competencies and management references configure the context of action of course coordinators. In addition to academic activities, this professional acts strategically in the search for results for the business.
