Study goals
The focus of this study was to analyze the utilization of a Scanner 3D for dimensional measurement on a diesel engines, comparing results using a measuring arm. Specifically, it was present a comparative analysis between both measurement methods.
Relevance / originality
Industry 4 0 technologies has become ever more often present on corporate routines Scanner 3D appears as technological innovation, despite its utilization has a limited application on metal-mechanical sector Literature research identified a lack on Scanner 3D studies as equipment for dimensional
Methodology / approach
The applied method in this research was a case study at a company from the automotive sector. The data collection was carry out through interviews and reports analysis issued by company’s metrology laboratory.
Main results
The results extracted showed several advantages for Scanner 3D in relation to a measurement arm. In addition, Scanner 3D offers application possibilities on others activities as, per example: reverse engineering, helping in solving qualities issues and development of new components.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
The engines dimensional check using a Scanner 3D provide an increase on measurements accuracy and facilitate inspection operationalization, which increase reliability and reduce time on engines measurement.
Social / management contributions
It shows a better ergonomic condition on job performance by inspectors. This contribution consist in improving knowledge about a Scanner 3D utilization in manufacturing. This study reveal to companies managers, responsible in taking decisions, several possibilities about a scanning measuring devices.
