Study goals
Describe how the application of Lean Six Sigma, through the use of data, can help to identify the main causes of extra costs in the Brazilian import operation in a large multinational in the field of home appliances, with worlwide operation.
Relevance / originality
It presents incremental solutions (more accessible because they have less risk) in the case of a large company, indicating that there may be situations in which the development of quick, cheap and/or easy-to-implement solutions can generate good results.
Methodology / approach
Case study.
Main results
Realignment of flows with teams, renegotiation of fees that were being charged through a public table (more expensive) and creation of a management flow and cost analysis in the import procedure.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
The application of low-complexity data collection tools and instruments, such as brainstorming and on-site interviews, made it possible to quickly and cheaply identify the main generators of extra costs and the prioritization of direct actions in these generators, saving resources.
Social / management contributions
Demonstrate that the use of data in decision making helps to reduce subjectivity, contributing to an eventual process of defense of proposed initiatives. The advent of computing, in terms of data storage and processing, has increasingly contributed to this end.
