Study goals
The objective was to map the state of the art of Brazilian scientific production on sustainability within the scope of interior design projects.
Relevance / originality
The recent global growth and broad potential for the development of knowledge on sustainability in several areas of civil construction (sector with significant adverse environmental impact), such as interior design, show opportunity to map the state of the art of Brazilian research.
Methodology / approach
The bibliometric method was used, and the keywords "interior design," "sustainability," and "sustainable" were used. The databases Scopus, Web of Science, Capes, and BDTD - Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations were consulted between 2004 and 2021.
Main results
The scarcity of scientific documents published in Brazil on the subject was found. Only 25% refer to articles, of which only three were published internationally; however, in the last five years, publications have been growing, signaling greater interest from researchers.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This research draws attention to the need to increase Brazil's participation in scientific production on interior design and sustainability, mainly through articles in international journals.
Social / management contributions
The importance of the topic was highlighted for Brazilian professionals in a sector that significantly uses natural resources, manufacturing processes with high environmental impact, and that inappropriately discards materials.
