Study goals
This study intended to investigate how six businesspeople used intuitively the learning based on the practice of the five competences that make up the Sports theory, and how these abilities were employed in their journeys in sport and in business.
Relevance / originality
It is unknown any investigative research conducted with such executives to comprehend how the competences developed in sports practices, according to the Sports theory, contribute to professional performances, hence this article expands the exploratory framework of this topic.
Methodology / approach
Methodologically, this article presents a qualitative research, based on a narrative inquiry, aiming to provide a sample of businesspeople who were successful benchmarks in their fields.
Main results
Considering the executives’ individual and personal perspectives, it was observed how the competences investigated by the Sports theory were shown in their professional profiles, so that each one demonstrated at least one skill with greater evidence of appropriation in their business stories.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
Based on semi-structured interviews with prominent personalities from the corporate world, the study encompassed theoretical and empirical research to broaden the understanding of practice-based learning and the impact competences acquired in sports have on professional life.
Social / management contributions
The study aimed to demonstrate that, among the various practices that can be carried out to achieve professional excellence, the application of the five competences acquired in sports can contribute to organizational performance and business management.
