Study goals
The objective of this study is to reflect on and discuss the implications of using Industry 4.0 enabling technologies in the content of manufacturing strategy, more specifically with regard to the competitive dimension delivery performance.
Relevance / originality
Despite the advances present in the literature on the subject, there is more to be studied. It is an emerging topic and researches like this one, which address business practice regarding the application of Industry 4.0 technologies, are opportune.
Methodology / approach
A bibliographical review was carried out on the set of concepts and practices that make up Industry 4.0 and Manufacturing Strategy. The development of empirical content was based on case studies of two large companies in Brazilian food industry.
Main results
It was observed that Industry 4.0 enablers implementation had positive impact on factors, such as, acceleration of logistical activities execution time and increase operational productivity. These aspects ended up making possible greater reliability and more agility in the delivery competitive performance.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This study, by bringing analyzes and discussions regarding expectations in terms of product, process and benefits arising from the implementation of I4.0, contributes to the conceptual development and theoretical deepening on the subject.
Social / management contributions
The research provides reflection and discussion of business practice and organizational management in relation to the application of technological initiatives related to Industry 4.0 based on the report of interviewees from two large companies in the national food industry.
