Study goals
This article discusses the degree of innovation in the Business Model of public institutions in the metropolitan region of Espírito Santo, with reference to the innovations of the business model through Industry 4.0.
Relevance / originality
From the proposal of this article to discuss innovation in Brazilian public institutions, it was possible to answer whether the public sector in emerging countries is or is not inert to the innovations provided by the fourth industrial revolution.
Methodology / approach
The study contemplated research in some entities that work in Espírito Santo to understand the adherence of these entities to the business model of Industry 4.0. The methodology adopted was composed of a questionnaire and an interview with the participation of employees of the entities.
Main results
Based on the survey conducted at the Court of Audit of Espírito Santo, Espírito Santo State Secretariat, Federal Institute of Espírito Santo and Federal University of Espírito Santo, it was possible to conclude that the State is not inert to the global changes caused by Industry 4.0.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
From the concrete analysis in the selected bodies and entities, it is observed that several actions are being implemented in order to optimize the processes, use network data and make communication with customers and society more dynamic.
Social / management contributions
The contribution of this study results from being able to affirm that the trends of Industry 4.0 are being observed in smaller states of developing countries, such as Brazil.
