Understand how sustainable micro and small businesses (SMEs) manage their product projects
Relevance / originality
This research shows that most sustainable MSEs studied have been achieving some success in the way they manage their projects, they adapt their actions to their contexts and needs. However, they need help to be more effective in management processes.
Methodology / approach
It is a qualitative study, 15 owners of sustainable Brazilian MSEs were interviewed, in addition to obtaining documents and data from secondary sources that served as input for the triangulation, the unit of analysis is about sustainable MSEs.
Main results
Owners of sustainable MSEs manage their projects in an intuitive way, without formalizations, and also face difficulties in maintaining their values in terms of sustainability. The lack of financial resources makes it impossible to hire professionals specialized in project management.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This work contributes to the literature by suggesting less bureaucratic processes, which require little or no financial investment, which are simple to the point of being used by professionals not specialized in project management.
Social / management contributions
It would be important to include sustainable MSEs in studies involving the sustainable management of projects, so that future research can capture the diversity of types of projects, proposing tailored adaptations according to the researched context.
