Study goals
The work in question analyzed how citizens of Mato Grosso do Sul connect to the accountability mechanisms provided by the Government of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul.
Relevance / originality
This study sought to contribute to the improvement of mechanisms that guarantee responsive and inclusive decision-making, thus reinforcing citizen participation and strengthening democracy in its collective essence.
Methodology / approach
A qualitative methodology was used through field research in which 33 (thirty-three) citizens residing in Campo Grande, capital of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, were interviewed, with subsequent analysis of the collected data.
Main results
It was found that a significant portion of the population was unaware of the issue of public transparency and that social perception and adherence are not considered regarding the accountability mechanisms currently in vogue in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
The work sought to elucidate how important it is to verify whether the citizen understands the accountability information that is transmitted, encouraging the narrowing of the gap that currently exists in the government-citizen communication complex.
Social / management contributions
This effort sought to demonstrate how strengthening the social perception of accountability mechanisms can improve social perception of government management itself, with a consequent increase in citizen participation and strengthening of democracy.
