Resumo

Objetivo do estudo

Abstract

Study purpose

To structure and implement a financial decision support system in a tourism company, grounded in the modelling and systematic monitoring of the Average Payment Period and the Average Receivables Period of the organisation.

Relevance / originality

Originality lies in a customised, low-cost solution, particularly the safe-slack instrument combined with a financial health traffic light, previously absent in the organisation, which shifts the analysis from the daily balance to the lowest balance projected ahead.

Methodology / approach

Action research with direct participation, organised in four phases: initial alignment, treatment and consolidation of daily treasury records, modelling of indicators and cash projection, and proposal of improvements. Primary organisational data and financial management literature were used.

Main results

Consolidation into a unified matrix allowed the calculation of the average periods and of the operating and financial cycles. A negative financial cycle coexisted with days of negative cash, justifying the 90-day daily projection and the traffic light.

Theoretical / methodological contributions

The report links the structural reading of the financial cycle to the daily reading of the projection, showing that aggregate indicators are insufficient as a daily decision rule, and proposes a replicable methodological path for technical reports.

Social / management contributions

It offers organisations with high turnover and narrow margins a low-cost path to convert records into decisions, reducing dependence on costly capital. It reinforces that the rule handed to the team must be simpler than the model.
