To analyse how entrepreneurial orientation has been addressed at the team level, identifying how team entrepreneurial orientation (TEO) has been conceptualised, operationalised and investigated in the scientific literature.
EO is consolidated at the organisational and individual levels but remains underexplored at the collective level. The review shows the absence of consolidated terminology and of a unified construct for TEO, and no studies on project teams.
Systematic literature review following Tranfield et al. (2003), in Web of Science and Scopus (strings “entrepreneurial orientation” and “team*“). Of 509 records, 129 articles were included, supported by Rayyan and by an AI agent during data extraction.
TEO emerges as a collective construct, not reducible to the sum of individual orientations. Fifteen scales, four categories of antecedents (structural, relational, cognitive and leadership) and three of outcomes (strategic results, innovation and internal processes) were identified.
It systematises TEO in terms of concept, operationalisation and investigation, reinforcing the multilevel argument. It shows that measuring TEO by aggregating individual scores is methodologically fragile, and maps the trajectory of scales from an outcome focus to a process focus.
It offers guidelines for intentional team composition, autonomy calibration and the strengthening of trust, commitment and knowledge sharing, as well as HR and governance policies that sustain collective entrepreneurial behaviour.
