Resumo

Objetivo do estudo

Abstract

Study purpose

To understand which project manager function is reconstituted when generative AI automates its codifiable task bundle — reporting, consolidation, forecasting — and why the prevailing professional narrative, prescribing reskilling toward judgment, proves structurally incomplete.

Relevance / originality

Theorizes the formation paradox — the same technology that raises the value of judgment removes the pathway through which judgment forms —, so far only stated anecdotally, distinguishing it from the optimistic narrative dominant in the field.

Methodology / approach

Conceptual theoretical essay. The function is decomposed into task bundles and submitted to the displacement–reinstatement framework (Acemoglu & Restrepo), tested against peer-reviewed evidence on exposure, productivity, judgment, and seniority bias in AI adoption.

Main results

The informational bundle is displaced; judgment, relation, and imputability persist through distinct mechanisms. The reconciliation between automation and demand conceals an asymmetry: the entry tasks that form judgment are automated before new professionals can exercise it.

Theoretical / methodological contributions

Offers a bundle decomposition with distinct mechanisms of human permanence and converts the diagnosis into eight falsifiable propositions. It adds to the task-based framework a distributive dimension absent from the literature: who effectively accesses the reinstated tasks.

Social / management contributions

Shifts the response from the individual to the institutional plane: firms, PMOs, and professional bodies must rebuild the formation pathway — entry-role redesign, formation governance, tacit knowledge transmission, and supra-firm arrangements — lest they exhaust senior judgment.
