Study goals
This review article aims to analyze, from the perspective of microfoundations, the constitutive elements of the creation of organizational capabilities.
Relevance / originality
From a systematic review of articles published in the main management journals, this article reveals that there are constituent elements in synergy in the literature on microfoundations, which brings an original perspective on research in the area of resources and capabilities.
Methodology / approach
After analyzing 19 articles selected from the main journals on the ABS (Chartered Association of Business Schools) list in a systematic review, the author found 3 main constituent elements of organizational capability creation.
Main results
The three constituent microfoundational elements of the creation of organizational capacities identified were: “knowledge”, “cognition” and “Routine.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This work has as a theoretical contribution the intention of consolidating studies on the creation of organizational capabilities at their micro-foundational level.
Social / management contributions
At the managerial level, the article presents a clear view of the most converging elements in the literature for the creation of organizational capabilities, an essential skill in strategic decision making.
