Study goals
To analyze the Permanence Management strategies adopted by Brazilian HEIs to face the challenges of student dropout and financial impacts caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Relevance / originality
Permanence Management is a recent topic and this research was carried out with 20 private HEIs from all regions, allowing an overview of the strategies applied to face the impacts of student dropout during the crisis
Methodology / approach
Descriptive study, qualitative phenomenological approach, carried out through a multiple case study. Data were collected using an electronic questionnaire and treated using analytical techniques, content analysis and data exposure
Main results
The research identified that the main Permanence Management strategies adopted by HEIs to face the challenges of student dropout and financial impacts during the Covid-19 pandemic were: application of special discounts and individualized pedagogical service to students.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
The results obtained from the case study contributed to prove the importance of implementing Permanence Management as a strategy to control the impacts of student dropout at HEIs in periods of crisis.
Social / management contributions
The study showed that there are still managers who do not have knowledge about models/strategies of Permanence Management and contributed to disseminating the importance of implementing these programs in order to assist in the sustainability of the HEI.
