Study goals
This study aims to analyze the process of disposal of electronic waste at the Cascavel Campus of the State University of West Paraná, in order to identify the practices adopted and analyse the efficiency of the process.
Relevance / originality
This case study helps to highlight the main points for the implementation of Green IT techniques, more specifically on electronic waste, presenting the difficulties of a state university, which may be the reflection of universities with the same legal aspect.
Methodology / approach
Qualitative research was conducted through interviews with employees responsible for waste management, a documentary review, and participatory observation by the researcher.
Main results
The results showed that there is no defined and exclusive process for the disposal of electronic waste on campus, but rather a general process for the university's movable property, and a disposal program carried out by the Computer Science course.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This study presented data that can be useful for the application of a Green IT governance, presenting the possible legal obstacles that a public university can obtain.
Social / management contributions
Based on this study, it is concluded that there is no clear and specific institutional process for electronic waste on campus, and additional studies need to be conducted to propose the creation of a clear and sustainable process.
