Study goals
The objective of the research was to identify the level at which industry 4.0 technologies have been adopted in supermarket retail.
Relevance / originality
Technological advances bring about significant changes in consumer behavior and force a review of organizational processes, including in supermarket retailing, with the gradual introduction of industry 4.0 technologies.
Methodology / approach
Systematic literature review in the SCOPUS database, using keywords "data mining", "internet of things", "Cyber physical systems", "Cloud systems", "Machine to machine communication", "Smart factories", "Augmented reality ", "Enterprise resource planning", "business intelligence", and "Virtual manufacturing".
Main results
65 scientific publications were found that directly relate Industry 4.0 technologies to supermarket retail, identifying 5 types of applied technologies: Data Mining (34); Internet of Things (15); Industry 4.0 (6); Augmented Reality (5); Cloud Computing (1).
Theoretical / methodological contributions
In view of the scarcity of studies on the subject, the study contributes by identifying the Industry 4.0 technologies most used in supermarket retail trade.
Social / management contributions
The research offers contributions to the management of supermarket establishments, by indicating the most appropriate operational processes for the adoption of industry 4.0 technologies.
