Study goals
Annually the Air Force Hospital of São Paulo summons doctors to work in various medical specialties. There is no method or protocol to designate the need and the ideal number of doctors to care for patients in the outpatient clinic. Thus, the work seeks to create a method to verify the necessary number of doctors, in a particular specialty, for outpatient care.
Relevance / originality
The method seeks to assess the annual need for doctors in an institution, taking into account the specialty, the demand of users for the specialty, as well as the possible impossibilities that may occur.
Methodology / approach
A bibliographic documentary research was carried out and based on the capture of data from the OSAWEB GESTOR system and reports provided by the Medical and Statistical Archive Service to create a flow of analyzes. In this flow, some indicators are analyzed, among them, the nosological profile of patients. The assessment of the need for doctors is composed of 5 steps, and in the final analysis, if two or more items are less than 1, there is a need for a doctor. In view of this, the next step is taken, which is the assessment of the number of doctors needed for outpatient care.
Main results
Two examples were carried out to validate the method and demonstrate that the method is simple and easy. Due to the peculiarities of the specialties, the radiological, anesthetic and medical clinic areas were not considered in this study. In addition, it was found that the data must be reliable so that its results reflect the reality of the institution.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This method can be used in public, private, small, medium and large institutions. The data for performing the steps and analyzing them are simple data, easy to collect and easy to manipulate.
Social / management contributions
Nowadays, it is essential that managers adapt their human resources needs to the needs of their population. With this simple and easy-to-handle methodology, the administrator is able to verify and statistically demonstrate the professional's need.
