Methodology / approach
For the literature review, journals were searched in the database of the CAPES journals portal, with the keywords "Frugal Innovation" and "Brazil" and peer-reviewed journals. The research journals were selected based on their relevance to the theme of Frugal Innovation. The articles were selected based on reading the abstracts and judging the possible relevance to the theme. After selecting the articles, the articles had been read in full and the state of the art was assembled. The state of the art was used as reference material for the construction of the article.
Main results
- Frugal Innovation is developing its space in emerging markets. Studies show that companies are recognizing that there are scarce resources and that they need to adapt to frugal attitudes, focused on the community / locality, including some companies in developed countries that are taking the initiative to install or sell their products and services in emerging markets. in order to reach the local market. However, Frugal Innovation still faces knowledge gaps and problems with local infrastructure, weak policies and cannibalization.
- There is a lack of research and case studies on the recognition of Frugal Innovation in the Brazilian market, mainly involving local companies.
- The low rate of case studies involving Frugal Innovation in relation to the amount of bibliographic research on the subject, shows that innovation is in its embryonic stage, but that there are business models capable of leveraging innovation in emerging markets.

As a suggestion for future work, there is a lack of research and case studies on the recognition of Frugal Innovation in the Brazilian market, mainly involving local companies.
Social / management contributions
As Brazil is a country with potential for Frugal Innovation, it is necessary to attract local companies to apply the methodology of Frugal Innovation in their companies and localities.
