Main results
The Cleaning and Environmental Education Workshops began in February 2019, totaling two events with six classrooms from the 1st to the 3rd year of elementary school. During this work, 79 students were sensitized with environmental education actions and cleaning efforts with the collection of different residues. These collections totaled 30 100-liter garbage bags. When segregating the waste collected during the joint efforts, it is possible to observe different materials such as biscuits and snacks, candy wrappers and plastic cups.
Since the beginning of the project, there has been a change in the children's view and greater knowledge regarding the importance of the correct disposal of this waste. This change occurred mainly in the reduction of irregular discharges that were carried out around the State School Djekupé, mainly where there is greater movement and circulation of children during the breaks between classes. This can demonstrate that Environmental Education has fulfilled its role, which is to raise public awareness of environmental issues and its participation in the defense of the environment, as dictated in articles 9 to 13 of the National Environmental Education Policy, Law No. 9,795 of 04/27/1999.
