Study goals
Projects with the potential to cause environmental damage must obtain the necessary environmental licenses to carry out the project. The objective of this work was to understand the role of the project management methodology in conducting projects with an environmental impact.
Relevance / originality
This paper becomes relevant by expanding the perspectives of project managers in relation to the sustainability theme, seeking to verify the adherence of the project management methodology in the environmental licensing phase.
Methodology / approach
Considering the proposed objectives, a qualitative research was carried out with an exploratory focus. Data were collected through document analysis, a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview.
Main results
The research revealed that there is, in Brazil, a wide range of environmental legislation that makes the process complex. It is noted that the project management methodology contributes and can be used in this type of project, requiring only some adjustments.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This work contributes to the field of project management by analyzing the adherence of the practices proposed by the PMBOK to the needs of projects with an environmental impact characterized by a high level of uncertainty and long-term execution.
Social / management contributions
This work contributes to society by analyzing the process of managing processes with the potential to cause environmental damage and in the environmental licensing process enabling the increase of knowledge and greater efficiency in the management of this type of project.
