Study goals
This article aims to present a preliminary analysis of the academic literature on the relationship between project management and the healthcare sector.
Relevance / originality
The synchrony of the various project management practices under an integrated governance oriented to healthcare challenges can support leaders and project teams in the healthcare ecosystem to deliver services to patients and population
Methodology / approach
The systematic literature review included 249 articles, taken from the Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed databases. The articles were then analyzed in Rayyan and VOSviewer.
Main results
After the analysis, three major dimensions emerged that influence the quality of services provided to patients, namely: (I) Healthcare ecosystem, (II) Patient journey, and (III) Management principles and practices applied in healthcare projects
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This study adopted a holistic perspective on healthcare projects, suggesting gaps that can be explored to deepen the analysis and establish categories based on research and/or complementary studies on specific areas of knowledge that can identify new elements.
Social / management contributions
This study contributes to the implementation of solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals advocated by the United Nations to support healthcare services to population and patients
