To map the main approaches and gaps regarding the use of HUMS and Big Data Analytics in helicopter predictive maintenance, investigating how these technologies contribute to the evolution of maintenance in aviation and the challenges of integrating technology and human expertise.
The topic is recent and still poorly consolidated. Its originality lies in exploring the use of underutilized HUMS data and in positioning human expertise as a central element of predictive maintenance, rather than as a marginal alternative.
Systematic literature review conducted following the method of Morandi and Camargo (2015), within the Design Science Research approach, with a configurative strategy A total of 1,228 documents were retrieved from the Scopus database, of which 17 composed the synthesis after screening and
A lack of consensus between CBM and PdM was identified, along with the role of HUMS as the origin of PHM, the limitations of embedded algorithms, and the emergence of knowledge-based maintenance, revealing a gap between generating data and converting it into
The study synthesizes the theoretical constructs of the field and systematizes a taxonomy of predictive maintenance approaches, consolidating the understanding of the integration between data and human knowledge and highlighting knowledge-based maintenance as a legitimate approach alongside purely algorithmic solutions.
Business Intelligence tools emerge as a practical alternative to expand trend analysis and parameter correlation, supporting safer and more efficient maintenance decisions, with a direct impact on the safety and costs of offshore aviation.
