Resumo

Objetivo do estudo

Principais resultados

O modelo articula duas trajetórias: a tecnologia reduz atividades burocráticas e a carga cognitiva extrínseca, favorecendo o bem-estar; simultaneamente, eleva o tecnoestresse e o estresse ocupacional, comprometendo-o.

Abstract

Study purpose

This theoretical essay aims to discuss the relationships between Generative Artificial Intelligence and the mental health of public school leaders, considering occupational stress, cognitive load and well-being at work, and to propose a theoretical model with testable propositions.

Relevance / originality

Research on artificial intelligence and work has focused on workers in general and on teaching activity, neglecting school leaders. This study innovates by articulating cognitive load, occupational stress and well-being within a single model, shifting the focus to managerial work.

Methodology / approach

Exploratory theoretical essay oriented towards building a conceptual model. A directed, non-systematic literature review was conducted in multidisciplinary databases, with a main time frame of 2022–2026, the period of rapid diffusion of generative models; earlier seminal works were retained to define constructs.

Main results

The model articulates two pathways: the technology reduces bureaucratic activities and extraneous cognitive load, favouring well-being; simultaneously, it raises technostress and occupational stress, undermining it. Organisational implementation conditions moderate this pathway, determining whether the outcome is protective or pathogenic.

Theoretical / methodological contributions

The article integrates Cognitive Load Theory, the Job Demands–Resources model and critical labour studies, offering a conceptual hierarchy that distinguishes technostressors, occupational stress, well-being and burnout, and converting the ambivalence of technology into empirically verifiable propositions.

Social / management contributions

The findings alert educational policymakers that the digital transformation of schools cannot prioritise performance indicators alone, requiring algorithmic governance, continuing education and institutional support capable of preserving school leaders' autonomy, well-being and decision-making capacity.
