Study goals
The objective of this research was to analyze what are the trends of research in Administration through neuroscience techniques.
Relevance / originality
Research that uses neuroscience in Administration seeks to analyze complex social phenomena through neurological processes. This is a lower-level limit condition for studying the micro-foundations of organizations, which must be contextualized in an integrated manner, incorporating the cognitive system that expresses the relationship between the brain and the social environment.
Methodology / approach
It is a bibliometric study with the bibliographic matching technique. The data were collected in the Web of Science database in the "business" sub-area of journals that address strategy and that cited the word "neuroscience" in their title, abstract or keywords. The total sample consists of 122 articles, of which 67 are part of the Exploratory Factor Analysis (AFE) and comprise the study factors.
Main results
Management research trends through neuroscience techniques are related to the mastery of research methods, the approach to social cognitive neuroscience and emotions in the decision-making process, the moral and ethical influences in the decision-making process of leaders and the interdisciplinary application of neuroscience techniques.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
Compared to other data collection strategies, neuroscience allows researchers in business to measure biological data that indicate an individual's emotional and affective aspects that can capture the subconscious events that underlie cognition and behavior. Neuroscience provides a new lens for organizational studies.
Social / management contributions
The current version of neuroscience in organizations will not be the definitive and comprehensive approach to the study of organizations, but rather, it indicates continuous scientific progress together with technological advances. Researchers must see neuroscience as a tool that complements existing methods and is mutually informative, interpretive and enriching.
