Study goals
The goal was to investigate how political learning practices occur in the Projeto Parlamento Jovem of Araucária-PR (PPJA), and how the incorporation of knowledge into everyday actions and activities occurs.
Relevance / originality
The education processes for the elections are among the proper institutes of electoral governance, alongside others related to the logistics for the elections (Mozaffar & Schedler, 2002; Tarouco, 2014). In reviewing the literature relevant to the theme, it was found that although there are several initiatives aimed at education for citizenship, developed by the Brazilian Electoral Justice (Marchetti, 2008; Morais, 2010; Cambaúva, 2016), there are no detailed reports of such projects. The present study seeks to contribute to fill this gap, giving voice to PPJA participants.
Methodology / approach
The study used phenomenology as a method and participant observation as a research strategy. The collection of primary data used a field diary and in-depth interviews. Data analysis used the process of description, reduction and interpretation.
Main results
Political learning took place in three ways. Personal learning has expanded reflection and exposure to new experiences; social learning transformed the participants' relationships with the world, and expanded the capacity for dialogue; the increase in the intelligibility of the practice led to an increase in protagonism.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
The study contributes to expand the capacity to apprehend social and collective learning phenomena, reinforcing the role of theory of practice and methods that expand the immersion of the researcher in the field. It also contributes to the development and operationalization of educational systems aimed at the political learning of young people and adults, especially for the reformulation of the PPJA.
Social / management contributions
The results of the study are already being used for the reformulation of the PPJA, with a view to expanding its scope for education for sustainability, by including the Sustainable Development Goals as guiding the project.
