Study goals
This study aims to explore how the national culture theme unfolds in the context of operations management and project management
Relevance / originality
This analysis is original because it relates the 3 proposed themes and identifies that in the context of the national culture, project management presents comparatively less studies than operations management.
Methodology / approach
We conducted a qualitative approach to metadata analysis, in the form of a systematic review of the literature involving 55 articles available in the Web of Science database. By means of a replicable protocol, we present the authors who are most useful, origins of publications and which approaches theories adopted
Main results
The analysis presents the theme of national culture in relevant growth in the areas of operations management, and in a less marked way in project management, we show that the debate on aspects of culture is not a consensus but the discussions evolve to prove that culture influences the operations and project management
Theoretical / methodological contributions
Our qualitative review of the literature contributes to the theory by synthesizing the most cited articles that involve the listed themes, providing a clear and replicable protocol at any time, being useful for monitoring the evolution of research involving interactions between culture, management and projects. We note that, on the one hand, we have consolidated theories and empirical quantitative studies that use them as a scale, little scientific production was generated by analyzing the consequences of the proposed actions
Social / management contributions
Understanding the influences of cultural differences can help project managers and managers to adapt their leadership styles to improve their performance. Being the globalization motivating the interest in the themes, we realize that the articles are few, but relevant, and that the consolidated models of cultural dimensions receive criticism
