Study goals
This study aimed at identifying the environmental and sustainable practices contained in the Institutional Development Plan of the Federal University of Tocantins and to assess how its different campuses effectively such practices.
Relevance / originality
The study encompasses the discussion on environmental and sustainable practices in the context of public institutions present in the Legal Amazon region
Methodology / approach
The methodology is composed by a documentary analysis of the Institutional Development Plan (PDI, in Portuguese) at UFT associated with a questionnaire answered by the directors of UFT's seven campuses (Araguaína, Tocantinópolis, Arraias, Miracema, Porto Nacional, Gurupi and Palmas)
Main results
We concluded that although the PDI brings several guidelines on sustainable practices, environmental management at UFT is still applied in a very timid manner. The questionnaires answered by campus directors demonstrate that many of the practices have not yet been put into practice. The Environmental Assessment Index of UFT campuses varied from weak to medium, with six campuses being classified as “weak” and for only one campus a “medium” sustainability index was obtained
Theoretical / methodological contributions
