Study goals
The article aims to analyze the generation of economic value, as well as to identify the value vectors and the impacts caused by the number of students, value of monthly fees and costs in the economic results achieved in higher education institutions (HEI) of the third sector.
Relevance / originality
Despite the representativeness of private foundational HEIs in the educational sector of the country, no academic studies concerned with their ability to create value, which is one of the necessary conditions for survival and propellant spring for the growth of organizations, were identified.
Methodology / approach
This is a quantitative research based on a case study with adaptation of the EVA (Economic Value Added) model and the use of multivariate econometric analysis.
Main results
The University Center was able to generate value in the recent period. The analysis disaggregated by concentration area and by course showed the good performance of health courses, particularly engineering. In contrast, it was found that most business courses have destroyed the organization's value.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
A deep incursion into modern theory of finance made it possible to adapt methods and procedures that led to an adequate application to the study of value generation in private foundational HEI.
Social / management contributions
The study contributes to the third sector's HEIs incorporating the issue of value generation into their management model assuring consistency to strategies focused on the financial sustainability of the organization.
