Study goals
This study aims to provide a broad view of research in Project Management.
Relevance / originality
In a tertiary study previously carried out by the researchers, no updated mappings of Project Management were identified and it is relevant to know the evolution of the field before conducting any scientific research.
Methodology / approach
A systematic mapping of the literature was carried out with analyzes made with the support of the VOSviewer and CitNetExplorer softwares. The defined protocol was strictly followed and the research was carried out in 3 search sites (Science Direct, Scopus and Web of Science).
Main results
Its findings revealed that, among the most outstanding authors, the predominance is European, with prevalence for the Nordic countries, which, together with England, are responsible for more than 50% of the main authors in Project Management. The journals mentioned most frequently in the publication were: International Journal of Project Management and Project Management Journal. And, in relation to the themes, it is possible to notice that there are researches with a more professional bias, and others with a more scientific bias; and, making a kind of link between these two types of research, we highlight those that appear to deal with these themes jointly and that can result in benefits both for the construction of scientific knowledge and for the improvement of management in practice. In this case, the word “knowledge” is highlighted, which indicates that research that deals with how knowledge is transferred and managed in projects can bring practical and scientific contributions.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This study brings theoretical contributions by the adopted scientific protocol.
Social / management contributions
It can result in relevant practical contributions, since it presents points where the research can focus to contribute to the success of the projects.
