Study goals
The objective of this study was to identify / analyze the levels of organizational commitment of technical administrative staff in education (TAEs) of a Federal Institution of Higher Education (IFES) in the Brazilian Midwest region.
Relevance / originality
To know the profile of the administrative technical servants in education of the Federal Institutions of Higher Education in the Midwest region of Brazil, contributing to the understanding and construction of the identity of this category of workers.
Methodology / approach
A descriptive, exploratory, quantitative research that used the Organizational Commitment Bases Scale (EBACO) as a measuring instrument, a tool developed to measure the levels of organizational commitments considering contexts and realities of Brazilian organizations. 318 TAEs public servants participated in the research (20% of the institution's active TAEs workers).
Main results
The analysis of the results indicated that the employees are positively committed to IFES in terms of identification with the organizational philosophy and objectives and good organizational performance. A low score was identified in commitment to remain and affiliation, which may indicate that the servers do not have a consolidated affective bond and also do not feel they belong to the group or as members of the institution. The employees surveyed while looking for a solid career, prefer to build them alone, without emotional ties.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
This research expands the studies on QWL and organizational commitment in the public service, contributing to the understanding and recognition of the importance of the position held by the TAE server in the IFES. Knowing the profile of TAEs' organizational commitment is important for the development of people management practices and policies, which align the well-being of employees and better efficiency / effectiveness in the provision of public service, in addition to collaborating with the expansion of the theme in different Brazilian public organizational contexts.
Social / management contributions
It collaborates in the development of preventive actions for Quality of Life at Work as well as the improvement of people management policies for the category of technical-administrative civil servants in education, workers of Federal Institutions of Higher Education.
