Study goals
The present study refers to a literature review of works researched in three research bases such as ERIC, Google scholar and SciELO, aiming to unveil and propose a new process of more sustainable education in line with the 2030 Agenda towards a long-term, more inclusive and equitable quality education.
Relevance / originality
The literature review on education for sustainability in higher education in Pedagogy is current and extremely important, as it provides innovative and quality teaching in the search for new attitudes and more sustainable values.
Methodology / approach
To achieve this review of the literature, four steps were followed: identification of keywords; analysis of secondary sources; collection of primary sources; and critical reading of the selected articles
Main results
The results of the study showed that there are 32 articles published by these research bases on the teaching-learning of education for sustainability at the heart of higher education. Of this total, only 12 articles were analyzed, the contents of the titles and abstracts and, subsequently, of the text in its entirety, allowing a reflection on the researched theme, at the same time revisiting teaching practices and how the theme has been treated in institutions higher education, especially in the Pedagogy course.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
The study brings up literature that underscores the importance of implementing education for sustainability in higher education, especially in higher education courses.
Social / management contributions
This analysis revealed whether there were principles and teaching-learning in the curriculum towards education for sustainability. The research will contribute both to the academic environment and to society, in the sense of proposing higher education institutions, which change the lines of research aimed at sustainability in the pedagogical political project of the course, and include extension activities aimed at transforming attitudes in more sustainable behaviors and practices of students, so that they come to act as conscious citizens and concerned with the sustainability of their living environment.
