Study goals
This technical report aims to answer the following guiding question: “What is the contribution of health education in the waiting room to patients' adherence to vaccination in a UBS?
Relevance / originality
The relevance of this RT is presented in view of the large flow of users circulating in the unit and the support of the literature regarding the resolution of educational actions through the waiting room, the referred unit, analyzed the opportunity as a facilitator to empower and encourage users as adherence to immunization, in addition to strengthening ties with the territory, promoting health and achieving the proposed goals for each month.
Methodology / approach
This work was carried out in a UBS located in the West region of São Paulo. This is a qualitative study, with activities developed by Physiotherapy undergraduate students from a private university in the greater São Paulo, who were doing an internship in Public Health at the referred BHU, the group was composed of 8 students and a preceptor. During the development of the waiting room, health guidelines were given through a set of questions and answers, folders and explanatory posters on the importance of vaccination.
The orientations were carried out during four non-consecutive days, through collective or individual approaches with an average duration of five minutes each. The group's total working time was five hours a day. The present methodology was carried out from April to May 2019.
For the survey of the number of users participating in the waiting room, a chart with numbers from 0 to 100 was developed on a sulfite A4 sheet and for each oriented user a number was assigned. The National Health Card (CNS) was also used to collect some data, namely: date of birth and sex. As for the verification of adherence to vaccination, each user was directly directed to the vaccination room and carrying a card that contained the following question: What vaccines were applied? For a better visualization and execution of activities, a flowchart was developed with the help of Bizagi software.
Main results
In view of the intervention proposal, 201 users were advised, 65% women (n = 131) and 35% men (n = 70). The mean age was 59 years and the median was 63 years. The youngest age was 19 years old and the highest 94 years old. In graph 1, we can analyze the results regarding the number of patients advised per day and the number of patients vaccinated after the health education guidelines, a total of 64 people were vaccinated.
Regarding vaccines, 80 doses were applied and the most repeated were: Double Adult (Diphtheria and Tetanus - dT), Yellow Fever, Hepatitis B, Influenza and Viral Triple (Measles, Mumps and Rubella - SCR).
Theoretical / methodological contributions
In view of the proven contribution of the present study to the literature and daily practice, it is considered relevant to carry out complementary studies, aiming - in addition to obtaining comparative parameters - to delimit the age group in which the rejection is greatest, in order to produce more effective tools for the target audience, resulting in an optimization of resources and increased adherence to vaccination.
Social / management contributions
In the contribution to management, the present study reinforced the multiprofessional work, in the case between Physiotherapy and Nursing, in addition to highlighting the importance of the performance of Physiotherapy with actions that promote prevention, promotion and health education in Primary Care.
