Study goals
Understand how critical success factors, more specifically communication, can influence the effectiveness of virtual teams and consequently the success of projects.
Relevance / originality
Due to the increasing improvement of the computerized environment of companies and the search for increased project efficiency, there is a growing demand for local teams to work with virtual teams. In this context, this report aims to demonstrate the influence of communication in the management of projects that have virtual teams.
Methodology / approach
Having research members involved in problem solving, this report is characterized as an action research.
Main results
Following the implementation of a plan to improve team communication and integration, confidence was identified, as well as gains in team productivity, effectiveness and efficiency, and increased project delivery success rates.
Theoretical / methodological contributions
We have been able to empirically understand and prove the applicability of research showing that trust, clear communication, technical support and corporate support are important conditions for project management with virtual teams.
Social / management contributions
We could show that communication directly impacts the effectiveness of virtual teams. Clear communication creates an environment of trust between teams and as a result, a significant increase in productivity and delivery quality of virtual teams has been evidenced.
