Resumo

Objetivo do estudo

Principais resultados

Abstract

Study purpose

To analyse scientific production on value co-creation and its outcomes for students in higher education, identifying accumulated evidence and the theoretical and methodological gaps that constrain the field's advancement.

Relevance / originality

First meta-analytic synthesis of the relationship between value co-creation and student outcomes in higher education, addressing a structural gap identified by previous reviews and integrating bibliometrics, thematic synthesis and meta-analysis in a single design.

Methodology / approach

Mixed-methods systematic review following PRISMA 2020, with searches in Scopus and Web of Science plus backward searching, yielding 87 studies. Bibliometrics with topic modelling (BERTopic), thematic synthesis, random-effects meta-analysis, JBI and GRADE were applied.

Main results

Co-creation is associated with satisfaction (r = .591; k = 24), with extreme heterogeneity (I² = 97.7%), and with engagement (r = .461; k = 8), which is homogeneous. Certainty of evidence was very low for both.

Theoretical / methodological contributions

Heterogeneity is reinterpreted as a theoretical finding rather than an artefact: engagement is proximal and satisfaction distal to co-creation. Articulating Service-Dominant Logic with the Presage–Process–Product model is proposed to explain mechanisms and conditions.

Social / management contributions

For managers, co-creation strategies require supportive institutional conditions, such as participatory governance and student voice, and contextualised evaluation. For teachers, making the co-production process explicit yields more predictable outcomes than actions aimed directly at satisfaction.
