To identify and systematize the main challenges related to the adoption of sustainable practices by family farmers through a systematic literature review, considering different dimensions that influence this process in the rural Amazonian context.
The study is relevant because it brings together and organizes challenges presented in a dispersed manner in the literature, highlighting their interrelationships and contributing to an integrated understanding of the conditions that hinder the adoption of sustainable practices in family farming.
A qualitative systematic literature review was conducted using the Scopus, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect databases, considering studies from the ten years preceding the research and procedures for selection, analysis, categorization, and synthesis.
Eight categories of challenges were systematized: heterogeneity of family farming, financial constraints, contextualized technical information, technical assistance, territorial and logistical barriers, public policies, education, and youth retention in rural areas.
The study contributes by systematizing evidence from the literature into thematic categories, enabling an integrated understanding of the challenges to sustainable practice adoption and providing an analytical framework that can support further studies on the topic.
The systematization of challenges can support the development and improvement of technical assistance, public policies, and support strategies for family farming, considering economic, territorial, educational, and sociocultural differences among farmers.
